The FitOn system
A fitness platform that front-loads its community identity before the user has done a single workout.
The design logic
FitOn presents its full community taxonomy during onboarding, before any workout has been completed. Groups organized by topic, including names like Single and Crushing It and 30s Club, are selectable during setup. Three paywalls appear in the first session. Rating each workout is mandatory to continue, meaning the app forces feedback collection at every completion. The free Basic tier provides unlimited workouts with no time limit.
The mechanic sequence
Complete onboarding including group selection. Select Basic (free) at the paywall. Complete a workout. Rate it mandatorily. Receive shareable muscle-map graphic. Browse community group feeds. Log steps and activity via connected device. Maintain CR Streak across workouts and steps. Return for live classes on a fixed schedule.
The system map
Tap any + on a connection to see how the two mechanics interactDozens of badges browsable by category in the profile tab, with the catalogue visible after one completed workout.
Full taxonomy presented during onboarding: Food, Journey, Lifestyle, Activity groups with specific niche names. The app positions itself as a social platform first.
CR Streak combines workout completions with device step count data, displayed as the primary dashboard element in the For You tab.
Celebrity and branded workout collections (Lizzo, La La Anthony) and live class schedules create time-bounded content events.
Program-based challenges with defined endpoints. Functionally shallow at the observed depth but structurally present in the workout tab.
Three paywalls in one session is the most aggressive paywall cadence observed across all fitness apps in the library. The third appears specifically after the first workout completion, at the moment of highest perceived value. Combined with the mandatory workout rating, which forces a positive engagement signal before the third paywall, the timing is deliberate.
The free tier is genuinely free with no time limit and unlimited workouts
The free tier is genuinely free with no time limit and unlimited workouts. The community groups selected during onboarding create a social investment before the user has done anything, making the app feel established from the first session rather than empty.
